Virender Sehwag says 'No One Indian team who can bats like me'

Virender Sehwag says ‘No One Indian team who can bats like me’: Virender Sehwag was one of the most dangerous batsmen in Indian cricket history. Even after his retirement, the 44-year-old’s batting is still revered.

His ultimate records speak for Sehwag represented India in 104 Test matches, and he managed to score 8586 runs.

In the 251 ODI games he played for India, he scored 8273 runs. There are few to no players in the modern game who have been able to replicate the level of Sehwag while playing a similar style of cricket.

However, the former cricketer talked out his comparison, only named Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant as the two players who have a similar style of play.

Pant and Shaw have had quite the rise in Indian cricket. While Pant has become an integral member of the national team, Shaw is still struggling to find his place in the squad.

Undoubtedly, both players have a plethora of talent but are still quite far from achieving the level of success that Sehwag achieved with the Indian team.

“I don’t think there is any player in the Indian team who bats like me. The two players who came to mind who have come close to it are Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant. I think Rishabh Pant is a little bit close to what I used to bat like in Test cricket. But he is satisfied with 90-100. I used to score 200, 250, and 300 and then be content. If he took his game to that level, then I think he can entertain the fans even more,” Sehwag said.

“I too came to know last minute, actually,” Ashwin’s father told News 18. “What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued.”

“(Retiring) is his (Ashwin’s) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation,” he added.

“Definitely, no doubt about it (being emotional for the family), because he was on the field for 14-15 years. The sudden change – retirement – gave us really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own,” Ravichandran said.

Ashwin only featured in the pink-ball Test for India against Australia, replacing Washington Sundar, who was preferred for the opening match in Perth. In the third Test at Brisbane, Ashwin found himself on the bench again, with Ravindra Jadeja taking his spot in the team.
