Indian shooter Deepak kumar wins silver medal in 10m Air Rifle event of Asian Games. Under the pressure from the start Deepak Kumar finalized with a final score of 247.7 behind China’s Yang Haoran who shot 249.1 (a record) to defeat his title.
India begin Day 2 with a shooting medal which is Silver in the 10m Air Rifle Final where Deepak Kumar fought back to clinch his first Asian Games Medal.
Earlier Srihari Nataraj won the Men’s 50m backstroke heats, but is only a reserve for the final as he finished 10th among 38 starters .
PV Sindhu has drawn first blood against Akane Yamaguchi in the team event.
Another Indian shooter Ravi Kumar, who has bagged bronze medal in Mixed 10m Air Rifle event along with A Chandela, was earlier eliminated with a score 205.2 points after qualifying for the final round.
But , LU Shaochuan of Chinese clinched the third spot to win bronze with 226.8 points.
Bajrangi Punia won the first Gold for the India in wrestling as he defeated Takatani Daichi of Japan 11-8 on Sunday.
The 24 year old chalked up 13-4,12-4,10-4, 11-3 victorious to bulldoze his way into the 65kg final.
Haoran was always going to be a threat to the rest of the field which featured two Indians, Deepak and Ravi Kumar. It was Ravi , who was consistently in the top 3 in the final in the initial series, but a 9.2 saw him slip down and get eliminated.
On the other hand, Deepak under pressure to stay in medal contention, shot a 10.8 first to move up to NO 2 , followed by a 10.9.
As of now India have won three medals – one gold, one silver and one bronze in the ongoing Asian Games.
