Barcelona Defender Gerard Pique confirmed retirement from Spanish National Team

 

Barcelona Defender Gerard Pique has been confirmed on Saturday , he will not play for Spanish National team despite his former Barca coach Luis Enrique being appointed as coach.

31st year old Gerard Pique said that, he has already told new Spain coach Luis Enrique that the World Cup was the last tournament with “La Roja”.

 

He also added, the decision has already been made a long time ago and it was well thought out. And he announced before the World Cup 2018 , he did not placn on returning to the national team after the tournament in Russia.

Gerard Pique , who made 102 appearance for the Spanish National Team , had been Spain’s Prime centre- back pairing along with Sergio Ramos.

Pique had declared during World Cup Qualifier against Albania in Oct 2016, cititng constant criticism, He had said back then that he was tired of the repeated criticism from supporters and the media, and that he wished to be left in peace.

 

Barcelona born Defender has never enjoyed the same rapport with Spain supporters as hie international team mates, he has often booed at games due to his repeated jibes at Real Madrid and his support for a referendum on Catalan independence.

Central defender of Spain made, his international debut in a friendly in 2009 and played 012 matches with Spain winning 73 of them, he also scored 5 goals.
