BCB Chief Nazmul Hasan Trashes Reports of Tamim Iqbal Retirement

BCB Chief Nazmul Hasan Trashes Reports of Tamim Iqbal Retirement: Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan has rubbished reports of Tamim Iqbal stated that he was hurt over the former questioning his integrity openly.

According to the Hasan, the senior crickter has taken an emotional decision.

Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday in an emotional press conference, just a day after leading Bangladesh in the first ODI against Afghanistan in Chattogram.

Reacting to Tamim’s comments that he would play the opening ODI despite not being a hundred percent fit, Hasan hit out at the cricketer while speaking to a Bengali Daily. He claimed that coach Chandika Hathurusingha was angry over the skipper’s decision.

“It is out of question. Do you feel this kind of decision can be made all of a sudden before the Asia Cup and World Cup, what are you saying? I feel it is an emotional decision though he said that he has taken the decision after thinking for a while and talking with his family.”

“I feel there is some factor and if we can know it, it will be good for the cricket board. At the same time I would be happy if he changes his mind as he is an important member of the ODI side.”

“There is no reason that it won’t have an impact on the team and I feel already there is an impact. Not only this series there is Asia Cup and World Cup in the coming days and when we were thinking that Bangladesh could do well in the World Cup, at this point of time I feel this kind of decision is harmful for us.”

After an emergency meeting with his board directors, Hasan opened up on his recent interactions with Bangladesh’s star batter and said:

“I did not have any clue that this kind of decision can come. I have spoken with him personally about his future and he said that he will play till the next Champions Trophy and later he spoke about World Cup captaincy with Jalal bhai (BCB cricket operation chairman) and I told him that he is the captain.”

New Zealand Cricketer Colin Munro Announces His Retirement From international Cricket

New Zealand Cricketer Colin Munro Announces His Retirement From international Cricket: New Zealand opener batsman Colin Munro has announced his retirement from international cricket. The aggressive batsman from New Zealand, who scored over 3000 runs in international cricket, has not played for the national side in the last four years; his last game was a Twenty20 international against India in 2020.

He begun his international career in Dec 2012, followed by ODI debut in the same month. While he only played one Test match in January 2013, he was predominantly recognized as a specialist in white-ball cricket.

He played in 123 matches in all forms for New Zealand during his career, scoring more over 3000 runs. Interestingly, Munro is the only batter from New Zealand to score three hundred in Twenty20 Internationals.

He was a member of the side that placed second in the ODI World Cup in 2019 and made contributions to the T20 World Cup squads in 2014 and 2016.

Munro has been focusing on franchise cricket worldwide and cited his absence from the 2024 T20 World Cup squad as the reason for his retirement.

“Playing for the BLACKCAPS has always been the biggest achievement in my playing career,” the 37-year-old said. “I never felt prouder than donning that jersey, and the fact that I’ve been able to do that 123 times across all formats is something I will always be incredibly proud of.”

“Although it has been a while since my last appearance, I never gave up hope that I might be able to return off the back of my franchise T20 form. With the announcement of the BLACKCAPS squad for the T20 World Cup now is the perfect time to close that chapter officially.”

“Colin was one of our first players to embrace the aggressive, 360-degree style batting that is now accepted all around the world as best practice,” he said. “He was one of the pioneers of the new game, an innovative batsman who took calculated risk-taking to a new level, and led what was to become a revolution in the way short-form cricket was played.”

“We thank him for his amazing contribution in more than 100 international games, and wish him well in his future pursuits.”
