ICC set to ban India skipper for 2 games? Will Harmanpreet Miss Asian Games

ICC set to ban India Skipper for 2 games? Will Harmanpreet Miss Asian Games: Indian women Harmanpreet Kaur would face a ban from the ICC in the aftermath of her outburst in the IND vs BAN 3rd ODI.

The Indian captain smashed her bat into the stumps while criticizing the umpire during the game.

The 35-year-old is set to be handed 4 demerit points, resulting in at least a two-game suspension. Whether it affects her participation in the Asian Games 2023 remains to be seen.

Harmanpreet Kaur is understood to have been handed four demerit points for her behaviour during the 3rd ODI.

The Indian captain was given out LBW while she is understood to have hit the ball.

She first showcased dissent at the umpire, then hit her bat at the stumps. In the post-match presentation, Kaur further slammed the officiating during the game.

“Some pathetic umpiring was done and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires. The type of umpiring that was happening there, we were very surprised. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we’ll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly we’ll have to prepare ourselves,” she said during the post-presentation.

Harmanpreet did not stop there. During the photo celebrations, Harmanpreet asked the Bangladesh to invite the umpires for the phographs. Reports suggest, the Indian captain said, “Why are you only here? The umpires tied the match for you. Call them up! We better have a photo with them as well.”

As per ICC norms, four demerit points count as two suspension points. Two suspension points equal one Test and two T20Is or ODIs. Harmanpreet thus will miss India’s next two games. However, the women’s team next travel to Hangzhou for the Asian Games. So will Harmanpreet Kaur miss Asian Games 2023?

The Indian captain might get lucky. The Asian Games does not fall under ICC jurisdiction so she could feature in the tournament. She will however miss the next games recognized by the ICC. However, none of the above is confirmed yet. ICC are yet to confirm sanctions or their consequences on Harmanpreet’s conduct.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, Matt Short Added as Reserves as Australia T20 World Cup 2024 Squad: Young Jake Fraser-McGurk and batting all-rounder Matt Short were added to Australia’s T20 World Cup squad as travelling reserves on Tuesday.

The talented Short—who can also bowl off-spin—was a highlight in Australia’s last Big Bash League, while Fraser-McGurk has been in outstanding form for the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

Both almost made the original 15-man team, but Australia’s top order, led by David Warner, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh, was too strong for them to make it.

“Matt and Jake made compelling cases for initial selection with their respective performances for Australia last summer and, in Jake’s case, more recently in the IPL,” said chief selector George Bailey.

“As the tournament proceeds, the short turnaround between fixtures makes it challenging to get players in at short notice in the event of injury.

“Matt provides the squad with an all-round skill set option, while Jake provides further batting cover.”

Beginning on June 2, the United States and the West Indies will host the Twenty20 World Cup.

Australia Squad: Mitchell Marsh (capt), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa

CSK Official's Big Statement on MS Dhoni's Retirement

CSK Official’s Big Statement on MS Dhoni’s Retirement: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs were abandoned by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday following their league final match loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Due to the reality that CSK’s Net Run Rate was a bit lower than RCB’s, the Faf du Plessis-led club prevailed despite both sides having 14 points apiece.

In addition to being disappointed by their team’s elimination, CSK supporters were also heartbroken by the possibility that MS Dhoni was done for good. Nevertheless, Dhoni hasn’t yet informed the team about his possible retirement, according to a CSK official.

A top CSK official discussed in a conversation with the Times of India how Dhoni’s 110-meter six in the match’s last over was largely responsible for his team’s loss to the RCB. Dhoni was unable to deliver on his pledge to raise the IPL trophy at Chepauk throughout this procedure.

“The ball was lost and had to be replaced. Dayal got a drier ball and suddenly hitting became difficult,” a senior CSK official said.

The report further states that Dhoni, who was saddened by the outcome against RCB, left the CSK camp on Sunday and was the first to return to Ranchi.

Regarding the crucial decision regarding Dhoni’s future, an insider informed the newspaper that Thala hasn’t shared his intentions with anybody in the team. He advised the management that the decision would not be taken until after a few months.

“Dhoni has not told anybody in CSK that he is quitting. He has told the management that he will wait for a couple of months before taking a final call,” the report quoted a source as saying. “He did not feel any discomfort in his running between the wickets, and that is a plus.”

The ‘Impact Player’ rule, which has received much criticism from a few active cricketers, is also likely to play a role in Dhoni’s retirement call. If the rule is persisted with, Dhoni might continue as it gives him the freedom to fulfil a specific job with the team. If the rule is abolished, the veteran wicket-keeper batter’s return might be difficult.

“We will wait for Dhoni’s communication. He always has the best interests of the team in mind, let’s see what happens,” the CSK official concluded.
