Kieron Pollard Officially Appointed Assistant Coach of Team England ahead of T20 World Cup 2024: The formal announcement of Kieron Pollard, the former captain of the West Indies limited-overs side, as the assistant coach of the England men’s cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2024 has been made.
The ECB will be hoping that the former all-rounder’s experience comes in help, since the main tournament is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean and USA.
Michael Hussey was brought in by the ECB to orchestrate a similar appointment prior to the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. The English team won their second T20 World Cup thanks in large part to the legendary former Australian.
Pollard, on the other hand, has played franchise cricket all over the world and is a T20 powerhouse in his own right. He is one of just two hitters in the format to knock six sixes in an over, and he has appeared in 101 Twenty20 Internationals, scoring 1,569 runs at a strike rate of 135.18.
The Trinidadian was crucial to the Mumbai Indians’ five IPL championship victories and captained the Trinbago Knight Riders to victory in the CPL 2020 final. Pollard, who is presently the batting instructor for the Mumbai Indians, is also a fantastic fielder.
Losing both the ODI and T20I series, England’s recent Caribbean visit wasn’t the most memorable. The visitors lost the opening two games of the five-match T20I series very easily.
But the visitors’ comeback was ignited by two consecutive tons in Twenty20 international cricket by Phil Salt. Nevertheless, the West Indies won the series after a daring chase in the fifth game. Jos Buttler described the tour as successful for them despite the loss, considering the development they made.
Notably, in 2010 Paul Collingwood captained England to victory in their maiden T20 World Cup in the Caribbean. Kevin Pietersen was named Player of the Tournament after the English team defeated Australia in the Barbados final.
