Jasprit Bumrah Reprimanded by ICC for Breaching Code of Conduct: After an argument with England batter Ollie Pope, Jasprit Bumrah received a demerit point and a reprimand from the ICC for violating the Code of Conduct.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) reprimanded fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah of the Indian cricket team for violating the Code of Conduct. And gave him a penalty point for an incident involving England batsman Ollie Pope during the first Test match in Hyderabad.
In the ICC statement, it is stated that Bumrah intentionally stepped in the path of England player Ollie Pope, causing “inappropriate physical contact” as he went for a run.
In the 81st over of the second innings for England. Bumrah appeared to be annoyed by Pope’s effort to take a leg bye, as he appeared to shove the England batsman.
Following the incident, Bumrah and Pope engaged in a verbal sparring match until India captain Rohit Sharma intervened and the on-field umpire settled the dispute.
“The incident occurred in the 81st over of England’s second innings, when Bumrah, after completing his follow through, deliberately stepped in Ollie Pope’s way as the batter went for a run, leading to inappropriate physical contact,” the ICC said in a release.
During an international match, Bumrah was judged to have violated Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
There was no need for a formal hearing; Bumrah accepted the sentence that match referee Richie Richardson recommended.
Bumrah was accused by fourth umpire Rohan Pandit, third umpire Marais Erasmus, and on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney.
England defeated India by 28 runs on Sunday to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.
