IPL 2022: Sri Lanka Cricket is ready to host the IPL 2022, As BCCI is looking for an alternatives venue to organize 15th Edition of IPL 2022.

Due to the CVID-19 pandemic in India, BCCI is looking for the same option as South Africa and Sri Lanka.

The last two editions of IPL took place in UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. IPL 2021 was initially played in India.

However, halfway into the tournament, some players tested positive for COVID and BCCI had to postpone the tournament. Later, the tournament was completed in UAE in September-October.

Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Mohan de Silva informed Cricbuzz that SLC will soon initiate talks with BCCI regarding hosting IPL 2022 in their country. He also said that Sri Lanka Board will be happy to host IPL in their country.

“We have seen reports and we will be happy to host the IPL in Sri Lanka. We will initiate talks with the BCCI regarding this soon. The Covid situation is not bad here in Sri Lanka and you can be assured we will be very warm hosts” SLC secretary Mohan de Silva said.

The COVID cases in India have risen due to the emergence of the new variant Omicron. Thousands of fresh cases are arriving every day and the government is taking steps to deal with the situation.

The preparation of IPL 2022 is underway. This time, a total of 10 teams will battle against each other as two new franchises Lucknow and Ahmedabad have been added to the tournament. A mega auction is also set to take place on February 12 and 13. The venue of the mega auction is Bengaluru.

The old 8 teams have retained a total of 27 players in their squad. These consist of 19 domestic and 8 foreign players.

Ahead of the auction, the two new franchises can pick three players each in their squad from the pool of released players. The deadline for this process is January 22. Notably, TATA Group is the new sponsor of the tournament.
