Selectors to Call Young Indian Fast Bowler Umran Malik for South Africa & Ireland Series

Selectors to Call Young Indian Fast Bowler Umran Malik for South Africa & Ireland Series: SRH’s fast bowler Umran Malik is on the top after his rich IPL exploits. The Kashmiri Pacer is all set to get his maiden Team India call-up for South Africa series.

“How often do you get a bowler in India bowling at 150kph+ consistently? He is a rare talent and is definitely on our radar. Of course, his name is being considered for India so that he can be groomed,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

While fans saw his raw pace in IPL 2021, Umran Malik is now more matured under pace-bowling legend Dale Steyn. At Sunrisers Hyderabad, he is slowly mastering the art of bowling yorkers at 150kph+.

His wicket of seasoned Wriddhiman Saha is now a lesson for all others. He bowled a yorker at 152.8kph to clean up Saha in the GT vs SRH match, impressing the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Sunil Gavaskar and Nick Night amongst others.

“Just have a look at some of the great sides, some of the great Australian sides that we’ve played against, [they had] the Brett Lees, the Mitchell Johnsons. This guy is a Test bowler, no one likes to face this pace,” Kevin Pietersen said after the match.

“Look at those figures, 5-25, the best figures in this year’s IPL. You can bowl him for an over, bowl him for two overs, bowl him for three overs. Let him run in, bowl around him. Build your fast-bowling around him,” he added.

He has kept tumbling wickets and is currently third on the Purple Cap leaderboard with 15 wickets from 8 matches. But it is his economy rate too which has been impressive. He has an economy rate of 7.96.

“It is up to the team management when he will play for India but yes he will be in the scheme of things soon. World Cup is too far away and it will be childish to say he will be in the squad as there is a huge competition amongst fast bowlers at present. He will have to climb the ladder too. He has a long way to go but he has definitely managed to impress many,” the member of the selection committee said.
