Never Asked Saheen Shah Afridi To Become Pakistan Skipper - Shahid Afridi

Never Asked Saheen Shah Afridi To Become Pakistan Skipper – Shahid Afridi: Shahid Afridi, a former all-rounder for Pakistan, has denied any role in discussions or efforts to promote bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi to the position of T20I captain. In order to be apparent Shahid Afridi did not play a part in Shaheen Afridi’s selection as Pakistan’s skipper.

On November 15, Shaheen Afridi was named the Twenty20 International captain after Babar Azam resigned as the team’s captain for all forms. There were rumors that Shaheen’s father-in-law, Shahid Afridi, may have had a say in the choice to choose the speedy captain.

During an interview on a regional news station, Shahid Afridi addressed the rumors that he had a say in selections for captain, saying that he has always backed Mohammad Rizwan.

“I always have been in the favor of Mohammad Rizwan. And I swear, I never talked about making Shaheen the captain, nor did I ever lobby. I am not involved in these things. I don’t have to, and I don’t like it either,” Afridi said.

“I said that Babar should not be removed from the captaincy. I wanted to keep Shaheen away from the captaincy. It has to happen; this is what happens to the captain in the end,” he further added.

“Shaheen as captain is entirely Mohammad Hafeez’s and the PCB chairman’s decision. I have nothing to do with that. I never lobbied for Shaheen’s captaincy. In fact, I have always wanted to keep Shaheen away from the captaincy.”

In Test cricket, the PCB named veteran batsman Shan Masood to succeed Babar Azam. Following Pakistan’s uneven performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, where they were unable to qualify for the knockout round, the decision was made to replace Babar Azam.
