Rohit Sharma says You can not keep Everyone Happy ahead of T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, has discussed the challenges of selecting a large talent pool by giving each applicant an equal opportunity before the final team for major tournaments is chosen.

Over the course of the three-match series, every member of the squad received an opportunity; however, it was not the first-choice contingent, since a number of players were rested and others missed out owing to injury.

The selection of the squad has proven to be a difficult task for the selectors lately, as young players have swiftly established themselves, shown their mettle, and maybe even cemented their spot.

“As far as Rahul bhai and I are concerned, we have tried our best to maintain the clarity within the team and communicate clearly to the player as to why they are dropped. You cannot leep everyone happy. This is something I have learned while captaining the team. You have to focus on the team’s goals first,” Rohit Sharma said in an interaction with Jio Cinema after Team India’s series win over Afghanistan.

“I was watching the games when I was out of the team, but I was not part of the playing team. So, I took the information from the coaching staff, and it was important to hand different situations to the players. Giving them overs where they are not comfortable bowling. Some are not comfortable bowling in the powerplay, while some are not comfortable in the death. So, we wanted to see how the guys can adapt, and I rhink we have ticked those boxes in this series,” Rohit Sharma added.

“We had discussed a lot of things prior to the series, and Iwwas away from the team for a year as well. I spoke to Rahul bhai about the team’s plans, the approach and which players are we keeping an eye on, where we want them to and all of that,” he continued.

“To an extent, having a vast talent pool becomes a challenging prospect at times. When we were focused on the ODI World Cup, the youngsters performed well in the T20s, and then when the main squad comes, some young players have to sit out. It is disappointing for them, their thinking is that,’We have performed, and yet we are out of the team,'” Rohit Sharma said.

A few players who finished the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) in outstanding form will undoubtedly cause selection issues. In the run-up to the 2024 T20 World Cup, the debate between form and experience is undoubtedly going to come up again.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has sad that Pakistan may take the big step of boycotting ICC events if India do not go to Pakistan this time.

Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and reigning champions Pakistan are among the countries that will compete in the Champions Trophy, which will be divided into two groups of four.

“If it is a bilateral series or Asia Cup, then the teams are asked, whether India wants to play or not. This is an ICC event. The cycle has been signed from 2024-2031. All the broadcasters and sponsors have signed about the teams that will participate in the Champions Trophy or the World Cup,” Latif said during the Geo News show.

“If a team denies to participate, they need to have a solid reason to justify their call. Just like in 1996, the West Indies and Australia did not go to Sri Lanka but still reached the final. If you make a reason for security, then it is not a solid reason. Teams like Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa are coming to Pakistan. They want to come to Pakistan,” he added

“ICC is existing only because there is Pakistan and India. If the government of Pakistan also says like India that we won’t play, then the ICC will be of no use as no one will watch the match,” Rashid said.

“We can say that India does not want to play bilateral matches, but you can’t deny the ICC events as you already have signed it. India has to make solid ground. If India doesn’t come this time, Pakistan will take a big step by not participating in the tournament,” he added.
