Who has Captained India in the First T20I Match Ever: India vs South Africa will resume their rivalry in the T20 format and in the opening T20I South Africa has beaten India by 7 Wickets.

Till now, both the teams have played 15 T20Is against each other. The Indian team holds 9-6 leads over South Africa in T20I Format.

Earlier, the BCCI had announced KL Rahul as the captain of the Indian team for the T20I series against South Africa.

MS Dhoni was yet to become a part of the leadership group and with no Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in the squad, India had a new captain for the fixture.

The Indian team has played 16 T20Is against South Africa so far. They hold a 9-7 lead over the Proteas in the format.

The battle between the two teams first started in the year 2006. South Africa hosted India for the visitors’ first-ever T20I match.

During that series, senior players such as Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly were not part of the team. In their absence, opening batter Virender Sehwag led the team in their first-ever T20I match.

Virender Sehwag was given the responsibility to lead India on their T20I debut. It was his only game as India’s T20I captain. The match was played on December 1, 2006.

In the 2007 T20 WC, Dhoni did the job and captained the side to a title win. While Sehwag didn’t lead India in T20Is after 2006, he did captain the side in Tests and ODIs in Dhoni’s absence.
