Hima das created history on Thursday as she won the gold medal at the IAAF under 20 Atheletics , she is the first ever India track gold medal, as Hima recorded a time of 51.46 seconds in the 400m m race. Hima das scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold at the IAAF World Under 20 Atheletics Championships as she clinched to top spot in the woman’s 400 m final race an the third day of competitions in Tampere.
She now joins the illustrious company of star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra , who won the gold in Poland in the last edition in 2016 in a world record. Das is the first Indian track athlete to have won a medal in the history.
Running in lane number 4 , Hima Das was behind Romania’s Andrea Miklos at the final bend but produced a stunning show during the final stretch to cross the finishing line well ahead of others to win gold . Miklos settled for silver at 52.07 seconds while Taylor Manson of USA was third at 52.28.
Hima das had also led the overall time sharts in the semifinals with a timing of 52.10 seconds on Wednesday. She also finished the first round heats on Tuesday clocking 52.25 second. Assam girl clocked an Indian under 20 record of 52.32 seconds to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Games 400m finals Gold Coast in April.
Since then Dad has gone onto improving her timing . she lowered the Indian under 20 records in 400m to 51.13 seconds while winning gold in the recently concluded National Inter State Championships in Guwahati.
Hima das belongs from Dhing Village in Assam’s Nagaon district, now joins the illustrious company of star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.
