World Athletics Championships: Christian Coleman wins 100m gold in 9.76 Seconds

Christian Coleman stormed to victory in the 100 meters at the World Championships in Doha. 23-year-old, who escaped a doping ban earlier this month on technically, swept over the finish line in a world-leading personal best of 9.76seco to claim his first major outdoor championship gold medal on Saturday.

Christian Coleman’s time, 9.76 seconds, might not have turned many heads, but this should. He beat Justin Gatlin to the line by 0.13 seconds- an entire body length.

Defending champion Justin Gatlin took silver 9.89 sec at the age of 37 while Canada’s Andre De Grasse claimed bronze in 9.90sec

Coleman said that this is something I’ll never take for granted, the opportunity to come out here and compete. And then to be crowned world champion?.

Coleman, who strongly denied ever using performance-enhancing drugs, was left facing a lengthy suspension in August. After it emerged he had registered three drug-testing whereabouts failure in a 12-month period.

Christian Coleman has recorded his first whereabouts failure on June 6 last year. Before two more offenses o January 16 and April 26 this year.

Earlier, Jamaica earned its first gold medal of the championship. Not is its traditional sprint but in the long jump courtesy of Tajaya Gayle, who won the country’s first world championship medal in a field event.
