Amazon Opens Its biggest global campus in Hyderabad, can accommodate 15,000 employees

E-commerce giant Amazon open its largest and first Amazon-owned campus outside the US, in Hyderabad on Wednesday. A facility spread over 9.5 acres and comprising three million square feet of built up area.

The 9.5-acre campus, located in Nankramguda, will house over 15,000 employees. Amazon has 62,000 employees in India. Country Head Amit Agarwal said We have room both for growing and consolidating operations at the campus.

Agarwal said, Over the last 15 years we have invested significantly in India. Across 30 office space, the AWS APAC region in Mumbai, 50 fulfillment centers in 13 states, as well as hundreds of delivery and sorting center creating nearly 200,000 jobs.

The campus spread over 400,000 sq ft, it’s located near the Rajiv Gandhi INternational Airport. The company plans to expand it to 580,000 sq ft by the next year.

Amazon now has 4 million sq ft office space at 8 centers in Hyderabad, excluding the fulfillment center.

Livemint reported, At the same time as it’s inaugurating its new Indian hub, Amazon is investing in other fronts within the nation. It is in negotiation to buy a 10% stake in one of India’s largest brick & mortar retailers, Fuutre Retail, people familiar with the matter have said.

Local Media reported the Amazon is eager to add food delivery to its Indian repertoire and is negotiating with multiple companies to kick-start that line of business.
