Android’s biggest problem remains fragmentation and Google seems to have found way to circumvent the issue by not releasing the distribution numbers for its mobile operating system. It released the distribution numbers for July, which shows the status of Android operating system based on the version number.
The monthly update gives us a look at where the latest Android version stands in terms of adoption on active devices compared to previous versions. Android P starts rolling out in a couple of month , Android Oreo is still the latest version.
Android 8.0 Oreo has crossed the 10 percent marks since May where it stood at 5.7 per cent. according to the latest update Android distribution chart, Android Oreo’s overall share of active devices has increased from 5.7 per cent in May 12.1 per cent in July.
Significant growth is certainly the increase in Oreo updates for a large number of Devices. Companies like Asus, HMD Global, Huawei, Samsung and Xiaomi released the fresh Android experience for their smartphone with Android Oreo.
Nougat remains the most widely used version of Google’s mobile operating system with a market share of 30.8 percent. in term of distribution 7.0 Nougat is on 21.2 percent of active devices. While Android 7.1 Nougat powers around 9.6 per cent devices. Marshmallow saw a decline of two percent , and still running on 23.5 per cent of active devices.
Android Lollipop include Android 5.0 and 5.1 , reached 20.4 per cent while KitKat declined from 10.3 percent to 9.1 per cent. Android Jelly Bean on the other hand , declined to 3.6 per cent and Android Ice Cream Sandwich fell to 0.3 per cent and Gingerbread to 0.2 per cent.
These distribution numbers are based on the date collected during a seven day period ending on July 23, 2018. Google expected to released next version of its mobile operating system, will be in the next month. Google is making it easier for its OEM partners to update the base version without affecting own layer of customization.
