Google Assistant can now talk in Hindi, 8 other Indian language

Google Assistant can now talk to users in Hindi along with eight other Indian languages without requiring the OD support for the local language. US-based giant on Thursday announced a major update for Google Assistant users in India where one can now make Assistant talk in Hindi by just asking Ok Google, Hindi Bolo or Talke to me in Hindi.

Besides Hindi and English, users will also be able to find the content in Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Gujrati and Malayalam.

The new update comes to the Google Assistant a day after Amazon revealed that Alexa will support Hindi and English conversations.

Indian users can now simply ask to change their Assistant language. Starting today, you can talk to your Assistant in the nine Indian Language for example, for talking in Hindi- you can simply say Hey Google, talk to me in Hindi to start using the Assistant in the language, without needing to dig around in setting. We are rolling this feature out on all Android, Android Go and KaiOS devices, said a Google Spokesperson.

The app action feature, which is going to roll-out in the coming weeks, will require some support from developers only need to make requisite bits and pieces are in place. Indian Today reported that developers only need to make minimal effort to enable their apps for App Actions.

Google Assistant will allow users to access different app features with voice commands. The search giant also announced that interpretor mode will be coming soon to the Assistant on Android and Android Go smartphone in the coming months. That will help translate from one language to another, helping unlock more relevant information and content for even more users across India.
