Google launches Ability to Search for Key Moments Within Youtube Videos

Google has introduced a new way to find exact moments in YouTube videos through its search engine, with the initial partners including CBS Sports. The features will require creators to provide timestamps for specific sections withing the video, describing the subject matter of those parts in the video description.

According to the company, it will help users easily scan videos to see whether it has what they are looking for, without having to sit through the whole thing.

The links to specific points in YouTube videos will appear in search results in English. Google is working with video publishers including CBS Sports and India’s NDTV to mark up their videos and make them more searchable.

To ensure coverage and good user experience, the feature is currently limited to a small set of providers. Google has launched a form for content creators to apply to be part of the program, the company reported.

When you search for things like how-to videos that have multiple steps, or long videos like speeches or a documentary. The Search will provide links to key moments waiting for the video based on timestamps provided by content creators, he added.

The new video move comes after Google last month launched the ability to playback podcasts from search results. That it had begun indexing podcasts based on audio analysis of the topics in a given show.
