How to automatically switch Your iPhone from light to dark theme

Apple has been rolled out iOS 13 updates to iPhones last month, which brought a host of new features onto Apple’s iPhone. Including new privacy and security settings, an updated camera app, a smarter Siri, Memoji Stickers and a Quick Path keyboard.

iOS 13 update also brought Dark Mode, which paints a darker hue across the interface and in many apps. it’s a stark difference from bright white screens that have dominated iOS for years and it’s something that people have been wanting for a long time.

You can toggle between the themes manually through the Control Center or by diving into the Settings app each time you want to change it, but thankfully Apple has provided a way for the phone automatically switch between light and dark depending on the time of day or sunset and sunrise cycles.

However, all iPhone models are eligible to get iOS 13 updates and by extension access to the dark mode. 7th generation iPod Touch, iPhone SEm iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, R, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max – are the only Apple devices that are eligible to get iOS 13 updates.

Here’s how to get your iPhone to automatically change themes
  • Make sure the device is running iOS or later (Settings > General > Software update)
  • Setting app and navigate to Display & Brightness
  • Toggle the Automatic setting under Appearance
  • Click the Options button to set the Appearance Schedule
  • Select either Sunset to Sunrise or set you own custom schedule
  • Now you will see automatically switch its appearance based on schedule
