Asia Cup 2023: Big Blow for Bangladesh as Litton Das Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2023

Big Blow for Bangladesh as Litton Das Ruled Out of Asia Cup 2023: Vice-captain Litton Das’ exclusion from the 2023 Asia Cup has delivered Bangladesh a severe blow. Das, one of Bangladesh’s most reliable batsmen in recent years, did not accompany the squad on their trip to Sri Lanka on August 27. Das was supposed to join the team on August 28, but he hasn’t because his fever won’t go down.

Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) thought about replacing Das, they decided against doing so until the very last moment. However, according to reports from BCB today, Anamul Haque Bijoy has been named as a replacement and will join as the wicketkeeper batter.

Haque has featured in 44 ODIs for Bangladesh scoring 1254 runs, which includes three centuries. The wicketkeeper batter last featured in ODI match against India in 2022.

“He (Anamul) has been in the runs in domestic cricket and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers programme. He was always in our consideration. Due to Litton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket and Anamul got the nod,” as reported by PTI.

Bangladesh’s attempt to stabilize their lineups before the World Cup 2023 suffers a significant setback as a result of Das’ absence from the Asia Cup. In addition to being Bangladesh’s most reliable batsman, Das also gives the squad a lot of balance because to his expertise in wicketkeeping.

Over the last one year, Das contribution in the middle order has been vital in Bangladesh performing well in ODIs. With Haque added to the Bangladesh squad, it remains to be seen the position he bats. Bangladesh kick off Asia Cup 2023 campaign by playing against Sri Lanka on August 31.
