Harbhajan Singh criticizes Yuzvendra Chahal's absence from the Asia Cup squad

Harbhajan Singh criticizes Yuzvendra Chahal’s absence from the Asia Cup squad: Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has criticized over the exclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal from Asia Cup 2023.

It is important to note that Chahal was not chosen for the esteemed competition.

Kuldeep Yadav was unexpectedly chosen over Chahal, and Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel were added as the team’s two spin all-rounders.

It’s important to note that all three of them are left-arm spinners, as opposed to Chahal, who spins with his right arm.

“The one thing I feel is lacking in the team is the absence of Yuzvendra Chahal. A leg-spinner who can get the ball to turn away. If you talk about genuine spinner, I don’t think there’s any spinner in India better than Chahal in white-ball formats. Yes, his last few games weren’t good, but that doesn’t make him a bad bowler,” Harbhajan said on his official YouTube channel.

Harbhajan remains unwavering in his support of Chahal’s ability and insists that he shouldn’t be written off as a mediocre bowler despite his recent underwhelming performances. He highlights how crucial Chahal’s inclusion on the team is, particularly in light of the 2019 World Cup being held in India. Chahal has established himself as a match-winner, therefore Harbhajan earnestly hopes that the selectors will reconsider including him in the squad.

“I think his presence in the team was necessary. I hope the doors aren’t closed to him. It’s important to consider him for the World Cup because the tournament is in India. Chahal is a proven match-winner. I can understand his form isn’t good, so you may have rested him. But I think if he was with the team, his confidence would’ve stayed intact. Any player who comes back after being dropped, the pressure to perform is always there.”

He said, “People used to say so many times about Mahi bhai (Dhoni), “Why is he taking the match till the 20th over, 50th over? “How many matches has he finished? He is the only one who knows what he is doing. Nobody else knows. He knows and he is winning matches. For me, that is muscle memory.”

“My mindset was different. I used to always think, “Let’s finish the match in the 19th or 49th over.” But if he is alone out there, he will definitely take the match till the last over and put pressure on the other team, making them think that he will just finish it with a six.” he further added.
