ICC World Cup 2023: Naveen-ul-Haq clean bowls Jos Buttler

Naveen-ul-Haq clean bowls Jos Buttler: The wicket left England struggling at 91/4 in the chase of 285, sustaining emotions of an unlikely Afghan victory in the 2023 World Cup.

Naveen targeted one of Buttler’s few weaknesses with perfection. The England skipper was waiting for a release shot while attempting to create a knock. By moving outside of the crease and angling the ball in quickly, the right-arm pacer drew him into the situation.

Buttler attempted a flick while clearing his leg, but his usual wide gap between bat and pad was there. Due to the more available skid in the Kotla surface, the ball slipped through it and struck his stumps.

Virat Kohli’s name has been chanted in support of Naveen during every Afghanistan match here. During IPL 2023, the two got into a fight.

Even though they appeared to have patched things up with a loving embrace, tensions flared up once more when India played Afghanistan at the Delhi stadium, the former Indian captain’s home field.

Rashid once again energized the audience. This time, it was during the second innings when he removed Liam Livingstone a short time after Buttler’s dismissal. England was at 117/5 after the powerful right-handed bat was out lbw for just 10 (14).

Rashid was only introduced in the 16th over despite their being calls for him brought on as early as the powerplay. This meant he still had most of his spell left at the time of writing. You can catch the live proceedings here.

All three of Afghanistan’s other bowlers each took one wicket earlier in the game. Jonny Bairstow was dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi with his first ball, Dawid Malan by Mohammad Nabi, and Joe Root by Mujeeb Ur Rahman with a stunning catch.
