This Cricketer Becomes The 1st Indian Bowler to Dismiss Father and Son

This Cricketer Becomes The 1st Indian Bowler to Dismiss Father and Son: Indian veteran off spinner R Ashwin achieved the unique feat of picking up the wickets of both father and son on Day 1 of first Test between India and West Indies in Dominica on Wednesday, July 12.

He picked wicket of West Indies opener Tagenarine Chandrerpaul, the son of former great batter Shivnariane Chanderpaul, in the 13th Over of the innings.

Ashwin dismissed Shivnarine Chanderpaul four times in Test matches, including in Sachin Tendulkar’s final international game at the Wankhede Stadium in November 2013.

In the process, Ravichandran Ashwin ranked No.1 in the world, became the first Indian and the fourth bowler ever to dismiss a father-son duo in international cricket.

Only three other bowlers have achieved a similar feat, namely former England all-rounder Ian Botham, former Pakistan legend Wasim Akram and South Africa’s Simon Harmer.

While Tagenarine Chanderpaul debuted in the Test series in Australia last year, Shivnarine is considered among the all-time greats in all formats of cricket.

The former legend scored over 20,000 international runs, including over 11,000 Test runs in his 21-year career. This included 41 centuries and 25 fifties, with the highest Test score of 203* against Bangladesh and the highest ODI score of 150 against South Africa.

Ravichandran Ashwin inched closer to becoming only the third Indian cricketer to pick up 700 international wickets, joining former Indian greats Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

IPL 2024: Mohammed Siraj's Baffling Comment, Virat Kohli's "Alag Cricket Chal Raha hai"

Mohammed Siraj’s Baffling Comment, Virat Kohli’s “Alag Cricket Chal Raha hai”: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad had a terrific victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, and the team’s locker room was celebrating.

In addition to earning RCB the crucial two points, the 47-run victory improved their Net Run Rate and put them in a better position to finish in the top 4.

Players were making jokes about their teammates in the changing area, which created a genuinely joyous mood.

One of the best parts of the changing room sequences was definitely the banter between Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli.

In a video shared by RCB on social media, Kohli and Siraj were engaged in a fun conversation, with RCB spinner Karn Sharma also getting involved. Here’s how the conversation went:

Siraj: What a comeback! We only wanted to take it one game at a time. Qualification or the playoffs is not in our control. What is in our control is, fast bowlers have the balls, batters have the bat. All we have to do is attack. If we qualify, it’s very good. But we just want to continue playing this brand of cricket.

Kohli: (laughs) He is saying batter has a bat and bowler has a ball

Siraj: The mindset is to take wickets, right?

Virat Kohli’s “Alag Cricket Chal Raha hai”

Kohli: (laughs) Alag cricket chal rahi hai (he is playing different cricket). Just say, “All I can see are stumps”

Siraj: Siuuuuuu…

Kohli: (laughs) He is saying see you.

In another video shared by RCB, the franchise’s players could be seen celebrating their victory against DC, the fifth consecutive of the season, in a wild manner.

Though RCB’s playoffs qualification hopes have been given a big boost, the situation still isn’t completely in their hands. RCB don’t just need to beat CSK in their final league match of the season but also hope for a few other results to fall in their favour.

IPL 2024: How Can RCB Reach Playoffs After Win Against Delhi Capitals

How Can RCB Reach Playoffs After Win Against Delhi Capitals: Royal Challengers Bengaluru, headed by Faf Du Plessis, defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs on Sunday to record their fifth straight win and maintain their hopes of making the IPL 2024 playoffs.

With the win, RCB currently has 12 points from 13 games; the outcome of both clubs’ league final match versus the Chennai Super Kings will be determined.

If RCB can defeat CSK, they will get 14 points, which would put them in a strong position to finish in the Top 4.

Rajasthan Royals were earlier defeated by CSK; hence, RCB would need to win by a large margin to have a higher Net Run Rate (NRR).

In order for RCB to advance, the Lucknow Super Giants, who are also competing for a postseason spot, must lose one of their last two games. DC and Gujarat Titans can both get 14 points, but it doesn’t appear likely that they will be able to advance to the next round given their underwhelming NRRs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowled and fielded brilliantly to beat Delhi Capitals by 47 runs.

But Yash Dayal (3/20) and Cameron Green (1/19) were brilliant with their lengths as none of the Delhi batters save stand-in skipper Axar Patel (57 off 39 balls) made a mark.

“Dropped catches hurt us. Could’ve restricted them to 150. When you lose four wickets in powerplay, you’re always chasing the game. 160-170 would’ve been a par score. Pitch was two-paced. Some were skidding, some were holding. When your main players are run out and you lose four in powerplay, you’re chasing the game. Anything can happen, but haven’t thought that far ahead,” he said after the match.
