Delhi Govt issue notice to Badhaai Ho makers for cut Smoking scenes

Delhi Governments issued a legal notice to the director , producer and actors of the Movie Badhaai Ho seeking removal of smoking scenes and promotion of tobacco products.

S. K. Arora, Additional Director & State Tabacoo Control Officer, said there were a number of scenes in Badhaai ho were the character can be seen smoking.

Tabacco brand promotion was also shown repeatedly in the movie which are violation under the section 5 of COTPA (Cigarette and Other Tabacco Products Act). These are punishable offence under section 22 of COTPA.

He said, “Punishment for first offence is imprisonment for up to 2 years with or without fine up to Rs 1,000 or both. For subsequent offence the punishment is imprisonment up to 5 year and fine up to Rs 5,000”.

He said, All these could have been avoided for the sake of youngsters who actually treat Bollywood actor as “god and follow them blindly“.

We have repeatedly issuing notice to Bollywood but the continue to violate rules. The Bollywood industry apart from legal, has moral responsibility. The industry has to wake up and feel responsible for the country, especially youngsters who follow them blindly like god, Arora said.

He added, 40 per cent of all cancers , 90 percent of oral cancers, 40 per cent of TB cases and 20-30 per cent of diabetes, hypertension, heart attack, brain stroke are because of Tabacco habits only.

“We wrote to Bollywood a number of times regarding this. Bollywood stars and films are role models for youngsters. The Youngsters follow their habits and copy it blindly.

Bollywood should decide to think on moral grounds ad should feel responsible for the people. The script can always be changed for the interest of public”

Advertisement for health awareness campaign and in Gold movie, he was seen smoking repeatedly. These things can avoided. The script can be changed, Mr Arora added.
