Kerala Floods: Facebook, Google, Twitter other Tech companies are helping rescue operation

Kerala is battling one of the worst natural calamities of all times. Nearly 370 people have been killed, over 800,000 people have been displaced and more than 8,000 houses have been washed away in the floods in the state so far.

The estimated damage in the state has crossed Rs 19,000 crore. ,and as the state continues to battle with the situation , aid is coming is form all quarters.

To help the affected in the unfortunate Kerala Floods , many NGO, crowdunding platforms, e-tailer have come together to extend all the aid to the people in the state. Many Tech companies too are doing bit in the same , with Google, Facebook, Twitter offering their tracking tools.

Besides the state announcing the relief fund and ministers pledging their salariesm Qatar has announced a financial aid of Rs 34.89 for the Kerala relief fund, while a UAE based Indian-origin businsessman has pledged a sum of Rs 12.5 crore for the relief fund.

Big Tech giants like Facebook , Google have provided tools that have helped the people in the fliood battered state to communicate and be rescued.

Share Location:

Kerala Flood victims can use Android smartphones or tablet to share a plus code of their exact location even they are in the offline more. This code can be shared over a voice call or a SMS.


Pople can user #KeralaFoolds and #KeralaFloods2018 hashtag , on their Twitter Lite apps to find information regarding the relief operations in the state.


Facebook has been activate a Safety Check Tool in the state to help people inform their relatives if they are safe or not.


Google’s person finder tool is active in the state and it can be used to find people or provide information about the people missing in the state.

Google has also put a pin-dropped list of recuse operations such as shelter food and water , jeep rescue material collection , medicines and essentials among thins on Google Maps

Amazon India:

Amazon is asking consumer to donate products to three NGOs listed on its website –Habitate for Humanity, WOrl Vision India and Goonj to help the Kerala Flood victims.

Caller ID Service:

Truecaller has linked its platform with Kerala CM Disaster Relief Fund it is allowing people donate money directly via TrueCaller pay feature on the App.

Ola Cabs:

Ola cab donating Rs 5 to the CM’s Relief fund for every non corporate ride that is booked on its platform.


it is enabling people donate a meal to the Kerala flood victims , users can donate a meal worth Rs 6 to Rs 10 using Zomato Apps.

Telecom operators: i

ncluding Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, BSNL are offering free service , like voice calls, and mobile data for seven days.
