Arsenal beat Chelsea on penalties by 6-5 in International Champions Cup

Arsenal beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after Alexandre Lacazette canceled Antonio Rudiger’s early strike late into stoppage time in an entertaining International Champions Cup match at the Aviva Stadium.

 

Antonio Rudiger broke the deadlock in the six minute when he headed in from a Cesc Fabregas corner. Chelsea could have gone 2-0 ahead but Petr Cech saved a Alvaro Morata penalty before Lacazette diverted in Ress Nelson’s cross from the right in the final seconds of injury time to take the game into penalties.

 

Second half substitute Iwobi held his nerve to clinch victory for the Gunners at the Aviva Stadium after the match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes. Another Arsenal substitute, Alexandre Lacazette fired a deserved last gasp equalizer for Unai Emery’s side after Rudiger’s early header gave Chelsa a half time lead.

 

 

 

Morata’s finidhing continued to haunt Chelsea as he wasted a few chances to give them the lead, Arsenal on the other hand were looking fluid and in control despite going down early.

 

Mesut Ozil and Hernrikh Mkhitaryan contitued to find spaces through the middle and ran at the Chelsea defence in the absence of N’Golo Kante.

 

All players barring Loftus –Cheek converted from the spot in the game, Chelsea will nest face Manchester City in the Community Shield final at the Wembly on Sunday while Arsenal play Lazio in the their last pre-season fixture at the Friends Arena in Stockolm on August 4.
